Workshop 1: Fundamentals of Road Safety Engineering
Objective
The objective of this course is to cover the basics principals of road safety including: principles of safety measurements, road network safety performance evaluation, road safety improvement programs, explicit evaluation of road design, and relationship between speed and collisions.

Instructor:
Dr. Sayed is a Distinguished Professor at the University of British Columbia. He is an internationally recognized expert in the areas of traffic safety and traffic management. Dr. Sayed has instructed and organized several short courses and seminars in traffic safety and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). He has authored or coauthored many papers focusing on traffic safety and serves as a reviewer for several international transportation engineering journals. He also serves on several national and international committees on road safety Dr. Sayed has completed numerous consulting projects in traffic safety in North America and internationally.Workshop 2: Asphalt Pavement Materials, Construction and Evaluation
Objective
The objective of this course is to cover basic information about properties and specifications of asphalt pavement materials, construction practices, quality control and quality assurance procedures, and methods for the evaluation of asphalt pavement properties and performance.

Instructors:
Dr. Al-Qadi is the Founder Professor of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His teaching and research interests focus primarily on pavement mechanics and advanced modeling, asset management system, infrastructure condition assessment and rehabilitation, and nondestructive evaluation. Dr. Al-Qadi has been the chair of many international conferences and organized several short courses and seminars. His research has resulted in the authoring of many publications. Professor Al-Qadi is a Fellow of the ASCE and a member of many international committees. He has been a consultant in on major infrastructure projects in the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
Dr. Eyad Masad is the Snead I Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University. He is an international expert in the areas of modeling and performance prediction of asphalt pavements. He has published many technical papers. He is the former chair of the pavements committee of the Geo-Institute. He received several prestigious awards and he served as a consultant on several projects in the United States and Internationally.
